Biography

Associate Professor Stephanie Best is an implementation researcher using implementation science methods to investigate the translation of complex health interventions into routine clinical practice She is the senior implementation research lead at Australian Genomics, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, where she establishes and contributes to innovative and cross cutting state based, national and international research programmes.

Stephanie has secured over Au$60m in competitive research grants, such as NMHRC Synergy grants and GHFM MRFF grants, providing implementation expertise on a range of projects. She applies implementation science theories, models and frameworks to the deliver robust evaluation of implementation in real-world settings. Her work articulates complexity, such as clinical genomics or care for underserved communities, from multiple viewpoints through systems to individual behaviour levels. She has a strong track record of collaboration and capacity building with clinicians and fellow researchers such as health economists using discrete choice experiments, and has co-created and co-led research with consumers such as the COVID-19 journal study. She has extensive leadership and health service experience. She is Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK), co-chair Melbourne Academic Centre for Health Implementation Science committee and associate editor for BMC Health Services Research. Her work is widely recognised with 20+ invitations to speak and publishing 50+ peer reviewed papers over the last five years.
