Biography

Kate Thompson is the Program Director of the Victorian Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Service and an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne. A social worker by training, Kate is renowned for her clinical, research, and advocacy work in support of young people with cancer and the development of more responsive health services for them. Responsible for the strategic leadership of the service, Kate’s areas of interest include equitable healthcare for young people, developmentally appropriate models of care, and workforce development initiatives aimed at building capacity of healthcare professionals working with this population. She is currently an investigator on a number of national and international research studies, has published numerous academic publications; and is a member of a number of national and international expert committees.
