The Division of Cancer Surgery incorporates The Departments of Surgical Oncology, Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, and The Perioperative Service.
It provides a comprehensive anaesthetic and surgical service for patients requiring surgery for cancer, excluding neurosurgery and thoracic surgery, which is provided by our VCCC partners at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Care is delivered through an integrated multidisciplinary approach, utilising purpose built, state of the art infrastructure. This involves new integrated operating theatres, including intraoperative radiotherapy, 2-D and 3-D laparoscopic equipment, and an established Di Vinci Robotic program.
Research is one of the 3 pillars of the Division, along with Clinical Care, and Education and Training. Research includes clinical, translational, and basic science research, and is embedded with the clinical program.
Education and Training is integral to the philosophy of the Division, and the Division undertakes training for resident, registrars, and fellows, across surgery in general and a range of surgical subspecialties, along with anaesthesia and pain medicine.
