Biography

Dr Rebecca Abbott is a Postdoctoral Scientist in the Centre of Excellence in Cellular Immunotherapy Translation Laboratory at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac), which is led by Associate Professor Jane Oliaro. Rebecca completed a Bachelor of Biomedical science (BBiomedSc) at the Australian Catholic University, and her Honours and PhD degrees with the University of Melbourne at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI).

In her PhD program, Rebecca characterised a novel CAR T cell immunotherapy for application to Glioblastoma, a highly aggressive form of brain cancer, using in vitro and in vivo model systems. Now, in her role as a Postdoctoral Scientist at Peter Mac, Rebecca is involved in the preclinical evaluation of novel cell-based immunotherapies for a number of different tumour streams with the goal of translating these into pilot clinical trials through the Centre of Excellence in Cellular Immunotherapy.
