Prof Sandro Porceddu

Biography

Professor Sandro Porceddu is the Director of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

He holds academic appointments as Professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of Queensland, and also the Department of Radiology and the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology, University of Melbourne.

Professor Porceddu has served as the President of the Trans Tasman Radiation Oncology Group (TROG) and Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) as well on the Board of Directors for the Cancer Council of Australia.

He runs an active radiation medicine clinical and translational research program and is an international key opinion leader in the field of head and neck oncology and skin cancer. He has led first-in-human, Phase I, II and randomised Phase III trials.

Professor Porceddu has had a lifelong commitment to cancer care advocacy through his contribution to professional and academic national and international committees. He is currently the Deputy Chair of the Head and Neck Cancer International Group (HNCIG) and sits on the executive of the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies (IFHNOS).

Dr Porceddu has been awarded numerous competitive grants and awards including the Chris O’Brien Australian/New Zealand and American Head and Neck Society award for his contribution to head and neck cancer.
