Biography
Associate Professor Gavin Wright is an academic thoracic surgeon and thoracic surgical lead at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. His thoracic surgical oncology training included overseas experience at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. He has been a driver of thoracic surgical oncology in Australia for over a decade and has contributed heavily to oncology group clinical trials and translational research. He is recognised as a pioneer of minimally invasive and robotic complex thoracic surgery in Australia. Professor Wright completed his PhD in the molecular biology of lung cancer and has research collaborations with multiple Australian and international translational researchers. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers and has been the recipient of grants and scholarships from Cancer Australia and the National Health & Medical Research Council. In his clinical practice he specializes in lung cancer, thymic tumours. His surgical expertise is in complex thoracoscopic lung resections and trachea-bronchial reconstructions as well as robotic mediastinal surgery.
