Associate Professor Nathan Lawrentschuk is a urological surgeon and oncologist in the Uro-Oncology Service at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He also hasappointments at The University of Melbourne €“ Department of Surgery and Olivia Newton-John Institute for Cancer Research at the Austin Hospital, Melbourne. In 2008, he completed a PhD in kidney cancer, alsocompleting his training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and completed two additional years of training in robotic, laparoscopic and open cancer surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada at Princess Margaret Hospital, the worlds 5th largest cancer centre. In completing this additional certificate, Associate Professor Lawrentschuk has now been accepted as a member of the Society of Urologic Oncology (the peak North American body for urology cancer surgery).
Associate Professor Lawrentschuk has a special interest in cancer high-risk surgery of the prostate, kidney, bladder, penis and testis as well as being comfortable with active surveillance of many cancers where appropriate. In addition to his further specialised qualifications, he also completed standard urological training of benign conditions such as laser for benign prostate hyperplasia and kidney stones which he is also happy to treat. He is involved with research and teaching at The University of Melbourne and has published over 200 peer reviewed papers and book chapters.
Associate Professor Lawrentschuk is an Associate Editor of the British Journal of Urology International as well as editing its Australian and New Zealand supplement. He is on the editorial board of multiple journals as well as having reviewed for over thirty academic journals. Nathan also has private practice at various locations in Melbourne.
