Peter Mac at Home: Nursing in the home

Peter Mac at Home provides specialised cancer care in the home.

The service provides in-home care such as chemotherapy, wound management and post-treatment care to patients who live within a 30 kilometre radius of Melbourne. Community liaison nurses can also arrange health worker visits for patients living outside the 30 kilometre radius of Melbourne.

Peter Mac at Home may be an option if you require specialised nursing care and have difficulty getting to Peter Mac. You may require the service for a short time after surgery or you may require ongoing care after chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

  • central line management
  • injections
  • radiation therapy reaction skin care
  • blood specimen collection
  • drain tube management
  • some forms of chemotherapy and other intravenous (into the vein) infusions
  • vacuum-assisted wound management.


The amount you need to pay for the Peter Mac at Home service will depend on your financial situation. Fees will not exceed a set monthly maximum, and you will be informed about these charges before incurring any fees.

Service times

Peter Mac at Home can be contacted Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm.

Home nursing visits take place between 8 am and 5 pm, seven days a week, every day of the year.
