The Apheresis unit of the Parkville Integrated Haematology Service (PIHS) amalgamates the expertise of medical and nursing staff from Peter Mac and the Royal Melbourne Hospital to provide a world class, evidence-based facility caring for patients who require apheresis therapy for the management and treatment of their disease.
The Apheresis Unit
The Apheresis unit also provides support to recipients of bone marrow transplant via the collection of donor products for use within the PIHS and in hospitals nationally and internationally.
Our service is located on Level 3 of Peter Mac, Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC). This purpose built facility has eight treatment chairs dedicated to the provision of apheresis services.
An on-call service ensures emergency treatment is available 24 hours per day and when needed can be provided off site in the Intensive Care Unit of the Royal Melbourne Hospital and to paediatric patients at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Clinical trials
We collect cells for a number of clinical trial programmes dedicated to developing new cellular therapies such as Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cells for patients with malignancies.
Every patient who participates in a clinical trial is an integral part of the trials team and we are committed to pursue state-of-the-art research from bench to bedside, as well as in other areas such as supportive care and epidemiology.
If you would like to participate in a research project or have questions about clinical trials, speak to your specialist.
