Impact of nutritional intervention in the outpatient management of long-term survivors of haematological malignancy treated with stem cell transplantation (SCT)

Metabolic syndrome occurs in approximately 49 per cent of long-term survivors of SCT. Individuals with metabolic syndrome are twice as likely to develop cardiovascular disease and have a 1.5 fold increase in risk of mortality. Lifestyle modification, previously unavailable to this population, focusing on nutrition, has the potential to impact substantially on these health risks to improve patient outcomes. This program will provide dietetic consultation based on the validated COACH model, which is a telephone-delivered program.
