Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre warmly welcomes the Vice President of the United States, The Honorable Joseph R Biden Jr, to its new home located within the $1bn Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) building today.

The Vice President is passionate about doubling the rate of progress in cancer research and treatment, establishing a new US national effort to end cancer through the Cancer Moonshot program.

Peter Mac Chief Executive, Ms Dale Fisher said: “The Cancer Moonshot program is premised on a collective approach to solving the complexities of cancer and as such, has strong synergies with Peter Mac’s strategy, the VCCC Alliance and the development of the Parkville Biomedical precinct.

 “Through our world class research program, Peter Mac enjoys strong ties with the US, which we plan to build on.

“We are delighted that the Vice President will have the opportunity to discuss our shared goals with Peter Mac’s leading cancer researchers when he visits our centre today,” Ms Fisher said.

Peter Mac has 500+ laboratory and clinical cancer researchers working in 25,000sqm of dedicated space at its new home within the VCCC building. In 2015 they contributed 495+ articles in prestigious scientific and health journals – a reflecting the centre’s contribution to global efforts to better understand and treat cancer.
