We are proud to sign an MoU with the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation today.

The MoU reflects our commitment to working with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve cancer outcomes and experience of care at Peter Mac.

The partnership with VACCHO is very important to us and we are privileged to partner with Victoria’s peak Aboriginal health body to advise us in our future work.

Within our Prevention & Wellbeing Program, we have a stream of activity that is dedicated to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.

Some of the activities we are planning include:

  • Development of a culturally appropriate resource that describes cancer care at Peter Mac and the services available for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people accessing care, including use of our possum skin cloak.
  • Working with VACCHO to provide Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training for Peter Mac staff; and
  • The establishment of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group that will guide us as we ensure a culturally safe service at Peter Mac.
