Peter Mac Board Chair Maxine Morand today announced Peter Mac's new Chief Executive, Dr Shelley Dolan.
I am delighted to announce Dr Shelley Dolan as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Shelley will join us from the UK, where she is currently the Deputy CEO of the King’s College in London.
Shelley brings with her a rich leadership experience in cancer research, education and care and large-scale hospital management .
Shelley has a passion for specialised cancer services having spent most of her career at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, where she rose to the ranks of Chief Nurse and Deputy CEO.
Shelley is a strong advocate for embedding clinical research and education within the clinical environment to enhance cancer outcomes and to deliver access to the latest cutting edge cancer treatments.
Shelley has a Masters Degree in cancer nursing and has a PhD in the early diagnosis of sepsis in cancer patients. She sits on a number of NHS research boards including steering the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network for South London.
Shelley is well known for her ability to navigate complex partnerships and networks, evidenced by her role in designing and leading the Cancer Vanguard new care model, a national initiative focused on improving early diagnosis of cancer; access to care closer to home; networked radiotherapy provision; improvements in living well with cancer and improving End of Life Care across London.
Shelley has also led the successful design and clinical roll out of new Electronic Patient Records (EPIC) including the design of patient portals to facilitate increased patient / family involvement in care.
Shelley was the outstanding candidate among a prestigious field of applicants. The Board targeted leading CEOs and executives - from North America, Europe and Australia - with a particular focus towards those who had a strong appreciation of leading specialist services in research-intensive healthcare environments. A sub-committee of the Board oversaw the six-month process.
In calibrating the group of highly qualified candidates brought to interview, the panel unanimously concluded that Shelley offered an exceptional fit for this role. The Board is confident that Shelley is the ideal leader to take Peter Mac into its next phase of growth. With our executive team, we will continue to strive to provide the best in cancer care, as we honour our values of excellence, innovation and compassion.
Shelley is married to a New Zealander and has two school-aged daughters, who are excited to be starting a new adventure in Melbourne. Please join me in a warm welcome to Shelley when she joins Peter Mac in late August.
