Accommodation options and subsidy information

Scape Peel Street

• Check-in: from 3pm
• Address: 247 Peel Street, North Melbourne, VIC, 3051 - approximately four minutes walk (350 meters) to Peter Mac
• Payment options: only Bank Transfer or credit card in person
• Cost: Studio apartment (1-3 nights) (1-2 guests): $99 per night
• No single beds - only one double bed
• No VRE patients Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus.
• VPTAS: bulk billed if eligible. All bulk billing reservations are to be made through Peter Mac Accommodation department,  If utilising the VPTAS scheme the patient is obligated to ensure that the VPTAS form is completed and signed by the Peter Mac Accommodation coordinator and returned to Scape on the day after check in ; VPTAS charges $100 a year for all claimants - if no pension card number and no current claims , the first $100 must be paid to Scape and cannot be claimed;
• If utilising Interstate subsidy schemes the patient is obliged to ensure they are already on the scheme, they have liaised with their state department and their application for bulk billing accommodation is completed before coming to the Accommodation department.
• Weekend leave. If the patient travels home on the weekends and claim travel expenses or has flights booked for them, they will be charged the applicable rate for the room and number of people staying.
• These are not serviced apartments; there are laundry facilities in each building, and a small fee if purchasing laundry powder.
• The Hotel is not authorised to change / upgrade any rooms organised by Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre – Accommodation Team. Any such requests by the occupant/s direct to the Hotel will be refused.
• No meals are provided at this accommodation – all groceries and personal items must be supplied by occupant.
• If a carer/escort is required, the patient must bring a family member/carer with them – Scape cannot provide any medical personnel or personal assistance;
• If patients and or family members display inappropriate behaviour and conduct, Scape reserves the right to cease accommodation provision.
• Any property damage caused by the occupants is payable by the occupants.
• There is no smoking in the building, or in the rooms, if caught smoking you will be fined $200 on the spot and will face immediate eviction.  There is a designated smoking area outside – be sure to familiarise yourself with this area.
• If the smoke detectors are disconnected and or covered, you will be fined $200 and be evicted.

Ryder-Cheshire, Ivanhoe

• Address: 10-14 Donaldson Street, Ivanhoe 

• If utilising the VPTAS scheme the patient is obligated to ensure that the VPTAS form is completed and signed by the Peter Mac Accommodation coordinator and returned to Ryder Cheshire within the first 3 days of your accommodation stay.
• Access to Peter Mac: Patient may be eligible for Ambulance transport if they have an ambulance membership, this service is not available for escorts.  At this time the service is very limited with the number of passengers also restricted.
• Other travel options from Ryder Cheshire is to drive your own car, catch public transport, taxi or Uber.
• Priority to financially disadvantage patients and families.
• No children, unless the patient is a child.  Exception: children can stay Friday and Saturday night – arrangements must be made with the Office at Ryder-Cheshire.
• No VRE patients Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus.
• Free off-street parking.
• Limited ground floor/elevator access rooms; 32 rooms have elevator access, 6 ground floor rooms (4 of which are disabled rooms) and 5 rooms are accessed by one flight of stairs
• Rooms have been recently renovated, all rooms have a fully equipped kitchenette, ensuite and reverse cycle air conditioning.
• Weekend leave. If the patient travels home on the weekends and claim travel expenses or has flights booked for them, they will be charged $30 per night per room to secure their room.
• VPTAS: bulk billed if eligible. VPTAS charges $100 a year for all claimants - if no pension card number and no current claims, the first $100 must be paid and cannot be claimed.
• These are not serviced apartments; there are laundry facilities in each building, and a small fee if purchasing laundry powder.
• No meals are provided at this accommodation – all groceries and personal items must be supplied by occupant.
• There is no smoking allowed anywhere in the buildings, smoking is only allowed at the designated smokers pavilion.

Vizard House Foundation

• Eligible residents: Carers, family and friends and - in limited circumstances - Out Patients
• Address: 70 Clarendon Street, East Melbourne

• 2 Tram rides: Tram no 75 from Vizard house to Elizabeth Street.
• Tram 19/59 to Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
• No parking.
• Outpatients – criteria apply
• Depending on your state Vizard house will charge the Subsidy amount.
• Arrangements for this to occur must be made before the stay and Vizard house consulted; the full fee will be charged if no arrangements have been made with your state subsidy office.
• Patients must be rural/interstate or international.
• Families and children welcome – limited family rooms.
• Check in before 2pm.
• Limited ground floor rooms- no lifts;
• VPTAS: bulk billed if eligible. VPTAS charges $100 a year for all claimants - if no pension card number and no current claims, the first $100 must be paid and cannot be claimed.

BMDI Rotary House

• Eligible Residents: Patients and family members; patient must have a carer
• Accessibility: there are only stairs - no lifts
• Address: 4-12 Blackwood Street, North Melbourne

• Application must be completed by the relevant Peter Mac Personnel.
• One car park per apartment.
• Stay longer than 2 nights, bulk billing can occur with your state.
• Patients must be rural or Interstate.
• Check in between 1.30pm and 5.00pm, Check out is by 10.30am- if unable to arrive at this time – the house Manager must be contacted.
• No meals are provided at this accommodation – all groceries and personal items must be supplied by occupant.
• Clean linen and towels provided on a weekly basis – family is required to changeover your linen.
• Bathroom and kitchen facilities in all rooms, most room have laundry facilities.

Abbeyfield Society Australia

• Eligible residents: One guest only
• Address: 17 Brougham Street, North Melbourne
• Walking distance: Approximately 17 minutes (1.3kms) to Peter Mac
• Public Transport: walk 3 minutes (250m) to Royal Children Hospital on Flemington Road– Tram 59 – to at Royal Melbourne; walk across the road to Peter Mac

• Shared laundry – not after 8pm at night.
• Upstairs access by lift (not wheelchair accessible).
• Bring your own towels, linen, pillows and blankets.
• Rooms: self-contained bedroom and bathroom, shower chair, hand rails.
• Live in housekeeper provides all meals breakfast left out in morning, lunch and dinner, advise housekeeper to retain meals if out; advise of dietary needs.
• Shared lounge room.
• If TV required need to bring small one of your own.
• Car Parking on street – very close to public transport.

Mary Glowrey House (Boarding House)

• Address: 132 – 134 Nicholson Street, Fitzroy 3065 (opposite Carlton Gardens)
• Walking distance: Approximately 25 minutes (2kms from Peter Mac)
• Public Transport: walk 9 minutess (700 meters) to Melbourne Museum/Rathdowne Street take Tram 402 to Royal Melbourne; walk across the road to Peter Mac.

• Cot available on request, 1 family room available (3 singles and 1 cot) subject to availability. Shared kitchen, living room and bathroom facilities. Lift. Linen and tea/coffee provided.

Disabled room; appropriate bathroom facilities available.

• Pay direct – receipt issued- Patient claim through subsidy. Any bulk billing must be negotiated through the hospital.
• Bulk Bill: the charge of $45 per night for the patient is claimed from VPTAS – the signed form must be sent to Mary Glowrey house , a $20 per night out of pocket amount is payable by the patient to Mary Glowrey House. 

Indigenous hospitality house

• Hosting Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people
• Eligibility criteria applies – AHLO/Social worker must contact volunteer’s prior to reservation request

• Cost: $5/night if the patient can afford it
