Work experience and outreach

We run science activities throughout the year for budding. These activities are exciting and interactive. They let researchers get a taste of life in the laboratory

We offer activities that include School work experience (though we only have a few places), and science activities to suit the special interests of the school's science students.

Work experience

Students who are interested in participating in the program should lodge an expression of interest via the expression of interest form. Students must be at least 15+ years of age at the time of undertaking a placement.

This year 30 students will participate in our Peter Mac program, with six students/week attending in the following weeks:

  • 17 - 21 June 2024
  • 24 - 28 June 2024
  • 01 - 05 July 2024
  • 16 - 20 September 2024
  • 23 - 27 September 2024

Please note: The places are limited and submitting an EOI does not guarantee a place.

2024 applications will open on Monday, 25th March 2024 and it will close on Wednesday, 3rd April 2024, 11.59PM

Peter Mac requires its staff and students to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide evidence.

All healthcare workers (including students and honoraries) are required to have had three doses of the COVID-19 vaccination in order to work onsite - including those who are not patient facing.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss this requirement.

Career information

Students wanting to pursue a biomedical research career have many different career options.

Our researchers and students can come to your school. There they can share their experiences about their research and careers.

We list some of the options and the education requirements for working in those careers
