Professional entry nursing clinical placements
Peter Mac supports approximately 170 nursing student placements annually. Students have the opportunity to work in a welcoming and supportive multidisciplinary team environment to care for patients with cancer. Placements are offered in acute care clinical settings including the inpatient Wards, Operating Suite, Day Therapy, Specialist Clinics, Clinical Trials Unit, Radiotherapy Nursing, and Peter Mac at Home (community nursing service). Additionally, a number of places are facilitated in the Palliative Care ward.
Clinical placements are arranged between Peter Mac and several Education Providers via the Placeright web-based information system. If you are interested in undertaking a nursing clinical placement, please speak with your Education Provider. You are also welcome to contact Tracey Taylor, Short Course/Undergraduate Program Coordinator, by email at [email protected].
Before beginning a clinical placement you will be required to meet the requirements as set out by the Department of Health Student Induction Protocol and your Education Provider. You must also carry photo identification at all times during your placement.

In the constantly changing context of cancer care, healthcare professionals require relevant and evidence-based education to inform care and to develop expertise in the speciality. Using a face-to-face ‘speak with an expert’ model, the short course program provides you with opportunities to build knowledge and skill in managing patients with cancer.
