Peter Mac’s Consumer Register hits 300
21 November 2024
Peter Mac’s Consumer Register has today hit 300 members, making it one of the largest health and research consumer groups in the country.
The Consumer Register is made up of individuals with a lived experience of cancer who contribute their insights - helping to enhance hospital services, refine research projects, and ensure patient-centred care remains at the core of Peter Mac’s mission.
Since 2020, the group has grown by 250 percent – a testament to the hard work of the Peter Mac Patient Experience and Wellbeing, and Cancer Research teams who are driving this important work.
Peter Mac’s Director of Patient Experience and Wellbeing Geri McDonald says consumer input enables us to identify what truly matters to patients and families, whether it’s improving communication, designing programs and services that respond to patient needs, ensuring more comfortable spaces, and setting research priorities.
“Over the past three years, members have played a critical role in more than 550 committees, projects, and initiatives,” Ms McDonald says.
“Their contributions have influenced clinical trial designs, hospital policies and the establishment of new services - ensuring outcomes that reflect the real-world needs and priorities of patients, carers and families.
“We have forged a really powerful partnership with our Consumer Register members and their insights are helping us continuously improve.”
The register represents a diverse group of individuals, each bringing unique perspectives shaped by their own personal experiences.
The team is working hard to ensure the register reflects the breadth of people who are impacted by cancer from many diverse backgrounds.
Every perspective strengthens Peter Mac’s ability to address the complex needs of each individual patient so they get the best possible care and experience.
It also ensures that research is meeting the needs of the community.
All Peter Mac’s staff extend a heartfelt thanks to all members of the Consumer Register for their invaluable contributions.
Peter Mac invites anyone with lived experience of cancer to join the Consumer Register to help shape the future of cancer care.
