The Peter MacCallum Breast Service provides a sophisticated comprehensive diagnostic and assessment service for patients with any type of breast disease (cancerous and non cancerous) leading to a personalised integrated multidisciplinary treatment program delivered in a caring and supportive environment.
Assessment, workup and management of patients with breast symptoms.
All stages and types of breast cancer including preinvasive breast cancer (pre –cancer or ductal carcinoma in situ -DCIS), invasive breast cancer, recurrent and advanced breast cancer.
Breast cancer occurring in special circumstances eg pregnancy.
Women at high risk for developing breast cancer or who have a strong family history.
Women with complications of breast cancer.
Breast cancer in males.
Clinicians wishing to refer patients to the Peter Mac may contact their clinician of choice or one of the Breast Care Nurses who will organise and co-ordinate the patient’s appointment.

Multidisciplinary clinics for patient assessment and treatment:
Three times per week
Weekly multidisciplinary team meetings to plan the best management for all patients undergoing treatment at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre including surgery.
Integrated breast surgical services treating all stages of breast cancer and preinvasive disease including sentinel node biopsy, breast preservation and breast reconstruction at the time of definitive surgery or at a later time, salvage surgery for advanced breast cancer.

The largest radiotherapy centre for treatment of breast cancer in Australia with dedicated and specialised breast radiation oncologists.

Large medical oncology service with dedicated and specialist medical oncologists experienced in breast cancer.
Collaboration with plastic and reconstructive surgeons for breast reconstruction and other complex surgical excisions that require reconstruction.
Participation in national and international clinical trials of novel breast cancer treatments.
Availability of investigational intraoperative radiotherapy for the treatment of early stage breast cancer.
Extensive experience in sentinel lymph node mapping and participation in international trials of this technique.
The Physiotherapy provides an integrated exercise program to minimise shoulder and arm problems after surgery and during radiotherapy.
A comprehensive lymphoedema program, which encompasses all aspects of management is provided by the the Physiotherapy Department .
Major contributor to the Breast Services Enhancement Programs in Victoria.
Expertise in genetic and familial aspects of breast cancer with close links to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Familial Cancer Centre.
