Family, Friends, & Peers
Friends and family can be an important support for you during your treatment, but not everyone will know what you need. Some people may step forward to offer lots of help, and others may not know what to say or will wait for you to contact them . Everyone responds differently and you may notice some of your relationships change as a result of this. You may also find that the experience of cancer changes your priorities and what is important to you.
Sometimes talking with other young people living with cancer can help you realize these changes are normal. Alternatively, it can be helpful talking with a professional who understands the common issues young people with cancer face.
If you would like support from other young people living with cancer there are a number of ways you can do this. National and international websites for young people with cancer have been set up to facilitate this interaction. Your treatment team can also arrange for you to meet other young people undergoing treatment.
