About our unit:
Bed No: 23 Beds
Specialties: Surgical Oncology
Patient Group: The primary receiving ward for all surgical cases ranging from simple skin reparative and breast surgery, to complex upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery and thoracic surgery. |

Staffing Profile:
A multidisciplinary, collaborative approach to patient care, aiming to provide the best possible outcomes for patients, relatives and staff, is our goal. We benefit from:
- Part time (0.8eft) Practice Development Nurse
- Participation in interactive clinical case studies with a focus on reflective practice and education
- Accredited Breast Care Nurses and Prostate Care Nurses on staff
- Ward 3 Nurses engaged in ongoing professional development opportunities at multiple levels
- Ward 3 Nurses participate in internal and external committees influencing patient care delivery
- Access to a wealth of oncology expertise and educational resources

We encourage and support ongoing professional development through:
- Access to a Certificate in Cancer and Palliative Care Nursing conducted by PeterMac with credit to Postgraduate Diploma through the University of Melbourne
- Rotational placements for Graduate Nurses undertaking the Peter Mac Graduate Year Program
- Study leave support for staff undertaking tertiary studies
- Access to Critical Appraisal Skills Program to research, write and implement best practice guidelines
- Structured orientation program for all new staff included an accelerated surgical support/development program for RN Division 1 year 2 and nurses with limited surgical experience
