About our unit: Bed No: 19 beds Specialties: Medical Oncology
Patient Group: Patients undergoing treatment for gastrointestinal and gynaecological malignancies, adolescent and young adult cancers such as sarcomas, as well as adult nuclear medicine therapies such as radioactive Iodine for thyroid tumours and paediatric inpatients |

A multidisciplinary, collaborative approach to patient care, aiming to provide the best possible outcomes for patients, relatives and staff, is our goal. We benefit from
- Full time Nurse Manager
- 5 ANUMs, a Practice Development Nurse and 2 Clinical Nurse Specialist nurses
- Flexible nursing model to care for our patients, providing continuity and building strong relationships between staff, patients and relatives
- The On Trac @ Peter Mac team offer psychosocial supports for adolescent and young adult patients and their families and collaborate with the nursing team to complement the care that we provide

Support for Staff:
We encourage and support ongoing professional development through:
- Competency based education and training related to administration of chemotherapy for a variety of solid tumours and the provision of supportive care to manage the side effects of various cancer treatments and complications of the disease process
- Rotational placements for Graduate Nurses undertaking the Peter Mac Graduate Year Program
- Access to a Certificate in Cancer and Palliative Care Nursing conducted by Peter Mac with credit to Postgraduate Diploma through the University of Melbourne and access to fee remission scholarships
Access to education and training designed to meet the needs of nurses caring for this unique group of patients, including adolescent and young adult and paediatric study days and a nuclear medicine learning module. |
