The Peter Mac Outpatient Department offers a comprehensive range of surgical, radiotherapy and medical oncology, and psychiatry specialist services for patients with cancer across the care continuum.

Assessment and Diagnosis
Treatment planning
Delivery of treatment.
Intervention monitoring with methodical management of responses throughout care and adjusted according to the treatment needs of patients.
Access to other services through referral to appropriate health care providers.
In direct partnership within the multidisciplinary team approach to care are nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work, dietetics, pastoral and palliative care, and clerical staff. all staff actively participate in the management of service delivery to patients and their families ensuring service is of the highest standard in oncology care.
A Unit based nursing model of care is used in the multidisciplinary approach to case management where there is the time and opportunity to develop a long term professional relationship with patients and their family, both during treatment and follow-up care. The Unit nurse patient care model includes education and advice via telephone triage.

Staff is committed to professional development, including participation in relevant internal and external practice committees ensuring patients and their carers receive the best standard of care at the Peter Mac.

Many patient information booklets can be accessed within the department to inform patients and their carers about aspects of treatment and assist with symptom relief.

The Department keenly supports the graduate nurse programme, medical student training and other health care traineeship, together with the many clinical research trials conducted throughout the outpatient department.

Outpatient clinics are located on the ground floor, near the Smorgon Building entrance.

Review appointments can be made on ex.1313 between 0830 - 1630hrs Monday - Friday, excluding public holidays.
New referrals can be made on ext 1311 between 0830 - 1700hrs Monday - Friday, excluding public holidays.
Outpatient Pathology Service
The Outpatient nurses supply a pathology collection service for inpatients and ambulatory outpatients. This outpatient service is available between 0830 - 1700hrs Monday - Thursday, Friday 0830 - 1600hrs, excluding public holidays.
ECG Service
The Outpatient department provides an electrocardiogram and spirometry service for inpatients and outpatients. This service is available between 0830 - 1700hrs Monday - Friday, excluding public holidays.
Transit Lounge
This service is located on the ground floor of outpatients and operates from 0830- 1700 Monday - Friday, excluding public holidays.

This outpatient nursing care service is for the management of admission and discharge of patients, patients requiring a short day stay for nursing, medical or radiotherapy intervention, and other ambulatory patients visiting the Peter Mac whose care may benefit through observation and support.
