In accordance with the requirements of the National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC), the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Ethics Committee reviews all research involving humans conducted at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, or involving Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre patients, staff or the use of the site’s resources. The Ethics Committee reviews the ethical and scientific aspects of research involving human participants, human tissue and records related to clinical care and maintains several sub-committees [see Committees] for this purpose.
In conducting its review, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Ethics Committee follows the guidelines set out in the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans (1999 and as amended), as well as other relevant NHMRC and international guidelines and Victorian and Commonwealth privacy legislation [see Useful Links].
