About Us - ACSC

The Australian Cancer Survivorship Centre (ACSC) is based at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) in Melbourne, Victoria. The Centre is focused on improving health outcomes for cancer survivors at Peter Mac, within Victoria and further afield.

Aims


 The Australian Cancer Survivorship Centre aims to improve outcomes for people affected by cancer. Utilising the perspective that survivorship begins at diagnosis the Centre aims to improve a range of outcomes for people affected by cancer. With funding from The Pratt Foundation the Centre focuses on integrating survivorship focused care across the cancer journey. With funding from the Victorian Department of Health the Centre focuses specifically on improving post-treatment care.

Direct support for cancer survivors


We are creating a network of care and support for Australian cancer survivors.

Our website has been developed to provide accessible, relevant, reliable, up-to-date and evidence-based information and resources about all aspects cancer survivorship.


Indirect support for cancer survivors


In partnership with the Victorian Department of Health we will promote improvements in survivorship care. We will provide ongoing support to the Victorian Integrated Cancer Services (ICS) to deliver the Victorian Cancer Survivorship Program (VCSP).

Our efforts are directed at:
  • engaging with people affected by cancer, communities and health professionals to remain up-to-date about survivorship issues
  • providing education and training opportunities for people affected by cancer and health professionals
  • reviewing, summarising and disseminating medical evidence about cancer survivorship and facilitating the collection of data
  • engaging in research to build the evidence base and encourage more Australian research
  • facilitating links and fostering collaboration between relevant services, researchers and other health professionals
  • advocating on survivor issues within cancer networks and the broader community and influencing policy-makers, service funders and others to improve post-treatment care.

Governance


A Steering Committee has been established to oversee the establishment of the Australian Cancer Survivorship Centre, provide guidance on the strategic direction and to ensure achievement of project milestones for the Centre. The Chairperson of the Steering Committee is Professor Richard Larkins AO. The Steering Committee also has representatives from the funding bodies, people affected by cancer, health professionals and other key representatives.
