Research Governance is a term used to describe how Peter Mac manages the research process from the inception of a research project through to the dissemination of research results.

It refers to the standards that are set in order to achieve and improve the quality of research conducted here, for example it includes:
  • Proper planning and resourcing of activities,
  • Securing necessary approvals and authorisations for work,
  • Enhancing the ethical and scientific quality of work,
  • Implementing and maintaining safe working practices,
  • Adopting high quality in research procedures and practices,
  • Identifying potential routes for dissemination of research findings to fellow scientists and the larger community,
  • Reporting and reducing adverse incidents,
  • Education, and
  • Preventing research misconduct.
