Radiation Oncology

Radiation Oncology - Peter Mac Cancer Centre

The Department of Radiation Oncology provides specialist consultation in the diagnosis, evaluation and radiation therapy treatement (in partnership with Radiation Therapy Services) and ongoing follow up for all types of cancer.

Radiation Oncology is a rapidly evolving discipline. Consequently, to ensure patient treatments implemented at Peter Mac are based on world's best practice and enable Peter Mac to be actively involved in clinical research, the department is structured into 10 specialist clinical units that focus on the various types of cancer.

The philosophy of the various units is to provide integrated patient-focused care, based on evidence derived treatment protocols, in a supportive and compassionate environment. The specialist clinical units are listed in our
tumour streams section.

The Radiation Oncology units provide services at Moorabbin, Box Hill, East Melbourne, Richmond and Bendigo, as well as at a number of metropolitan hospitals. The metropolitan hospitals involved are Frankston, St. Vincent's, Royal Melbourne, Royal Women's, Royal Children's, Monash Medical Centre and Dandenong Valley Private.

The oncology units are actively involved in research and clinical trials. Further information on such activities can be found in our
tumour streams section.

The Radiation Oncology Department is actively involved in providing continuing education for Oncologists, Registrars and other medical staff at Peter Mac and its satellite centres. Oncologists from the department are also involved in educational activities external to Peter Mac.

We also run a Fellowship program supporting senior trainees and junior specialists to develop further clinical and research expertise in the discipline.
