Radiation Engineering is responsible for the maintenance of all Radiation Therapy Treatment machines (Linear Accelerators, Orthovoltage and Superficial) as well as treatment simulators at East Melbourne and the satellite centres.
|
The staff in the department are multi-skilled and provide specialist services to a number of internal and external clients. The electronics group has a primary focus on the treatment machines while the mechanical group has a more diverse role in supporting these machines, manufacturing and maintaining specialist equipment for the research laboratories and other areas of the hospital.
As a result of the increasing complexity of the radiation therapy equipment used and the requirement for equipment to have minimal downtime to deliver a high quality service to our patients, staff undertake specialised training courses overseas.
