Health Information Services - Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Health Information Services provides the following core services:

Creation, maintenance and provision of medical records and other health information (both paper and electronic) to support the treatment of patients across Peter Mac Clinical coding of all admitted activity for reporting, research and funding requirements Registration of patients newly referred to Peter Mac including the collection of the administrative, financial and referral information Admission services for inpatient activity and management of admitted patient data and policies Registration of primary cancer diagnoses with the Victorian Cancer Registry Ensuring organisation compliance with relevant privacy and health records legislation Information systems functional development and training of staff Processing requests for information from patients, external health care providers and legal bodies under the Freedom of Information Act and other legislation. Transcription of dictated documentation including outpatient progress notes, correspondence, surgical operation notes and discharge summaries.

Access to medical records and freedom of information

Patients wanting information from or copies of their medical record

Under the Freedom of Information Act, patients have certain rights to access information held about them. Medical Practitioners accessing information from their patient's Peter Mac medical record

GPs and other health professionals outside of Peter Mac may request information for patients they are treating by faxing a written request to: Health Information Services, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Fax: (03) 9656 1401.
