Health Information Services - Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Health Information Services provides the following core services:

Creation, maintenance and provision of health record information (both paper and electronic) to support the treatment of patients across Peter Mac Clinical coding and casemix management to ensure the hospital is appropriately funded for all inpatient activity Registration of patients newly referred to Peter Mac including the collection of the administrative, financial and referral information Admission for inpatient episodes and management of admitted patient data and policies Registration of primary cancer diagnoses with the Cancer Council Victoria Ensuring hospital compliance with the Health Records Act and privacy legislation Processing requests for information from patients, external health care providers and legal bodies under the Freedom of Information Act and other legislation. Typing of dictation outpatient progress notes and correspondence.

Medical Records and Freedom of Information

In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act, patients have the right to request access to their medical record and personal information held by Peter Mac. If there is information in the record which is incorrect or with which a patient does not agree, they have the right to request that it be corrected. Requests for access to a patient's own medical record can be made in writing. GPs and other health professionals may request information for patients they are now treating by faxing a request to the Medical Records Department.
