Gynaecologic Oncology Service

Gynaecologic Oncology Service - Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

The Gynaecologic Oncology Service at Peter Mac offers full diagnostic treatment, rehabilitation and follow-up for women with all types and stages of gynaecologic cancer. Treatment services are available at both East Melbourne and Moorabbin sites.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma

The Gynaecology Oncology Service brings together expertise from the three major Gynaecology Oncology Surgical units in a coherent, single site, multidisciplinary clinical setting.

Gynaecology Oncologists, dedicated radiation and medical oncologists, oncologic imaging radiologists, nuclear physicians and pathologists conduct bi-monthly Tumour Panel meetings to devise the best management plan for every new patient referred to the Service.

The Stream Radiation and Medical Oncologists also provide consistent input at Multidisciplinary Meetings (MDM) for other services.

These services are supported by specialised Nurse Practitioners and Allied Health staff for both Outpatient and Consultant lead Inpatient Services.

The multidisciplinary approach incorporates diagnostic laparoscopy, histological and cytopathological investigations, as well as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) service.

World leading Image Guided High Dose Rate gynaecologic brachytherapy services are available at East Melbourne and include intracavitary and interstial techniques.

The Service conducts clinical and translational research and is actively involved in cooperative research groups such as ANZGOG and TROG, and Psychosocial and Supportive Care research.
