General Information for GP's & Specialists: Referring your patient



This clinic operates on Tuesday afternoons for Lower GI and Wednesday afternoons for Upper GI.

Referral Requirements


All patients must be referred to an individual clinician or head of the service. If you are unsure of the appropriate clinician - your patient will be placed with the correct consultant once the referral is received.

A completed referral form with where available, Histopathology Results, Relevant Investigations and Baseline Bloods.

TUMOURS
INVESTIGATIONS
Colorectal
Carcinoembryonic Antigen screening, (CEA)
Faecal Occult Blood Testing results,
Liver Function Test [LFTs], FBE
If completed Staging CT- Chest/Abdomen/Pelvis ,
Endoscopy and Biopsy Results

Gastric/Oesophageal
Endoscopy Report
Pathology, LFT’s, FBE
If completed Chest/Abdomen/CT Scan

Anal
Endoscopy Report and Pathology, Biopsy- Histopathology (if available)
Hepatobiliary/Liver metastases
Unknown Primary

LFT’s,
Tumour Markers- CA 19.9,
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
If completed CT Scan Chest/ Abdomen / Pelvis, Biopsy Result

*A second opinion requires a comprehensive summary of past treatments including: operation notes, recent scanning and treatment (if applicable).

The urgency and clinic allocation are determined by referral content. Many clinics have all referrals read by Medical Consultants and / or Nurse Coordinators. If you are concerned with the appointment time allocated to your patient, please phone the New Patient Registration Clerk 9656 1335 or page the Nurse Coordinator on 9656 1111 pg 7407.
