Meet the Familial Cancer Centre Team

Director of Familial Cancer Centre

Dr Gillian Mitchell Clinical Oncologist Medical training at King's College, London and then physician training at the Guy's group of hospitals in London and was awarded the MRCP in 1994. Clinical Oncology training at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London and obtained the FRCR in 1998. PhD awarded 2008.

Clinical role

At the FCC I assess and manage people at high risk of developing cancer, particularly women with breast cancer who are using the family risk information to help them chose the most appropriate cancer treatment. I also treat breast cancer using both chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the Peter Mac's East Melbourne and Box Hill breast oncology clinics.

Research role

My research focus is to find better ways of identifying people at familial risk of cancer and to target cancer screening and treatments more effectively using the genetic information.
