Caring for a Person with Cancer

Caring for a Person with Cancer - Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

At Peter Mac caring for a person with cancer means also caring for the family and friends of a person with cancer.

This section provides links to helpful information about how to help care for a person with cancer and caring for yourself. Everyone copes differently. We have a range of information in our Australian Cancer Survivorship and Information Centre - A Richard Pratt Legacy. You are welcome to visit the centre to browse, collect information or talk with the Cancer Support Nurse.

The Cancer Council Victoria has produced some information that you may find helpful:
  • I want to help: when a relative, friend or colleague has cancer

Social workers are available to patients and their families/carers throughout the duration of their contact with Peter Mac. Social workers receive referrals from patients, family members, nurses, doctors, other health professionals, social workers from other hospitals and community centres. There is a social worker allocated to each clinical service.

Carers Victoria offer a range of services for carers of people affected by cancer.
