Breast Cancer Service - Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

The Peter Mac Breast Service provides comprehensive and individualised care to patients with a wide range of breast diseases ranging from benign breast conditions to advanced breast cancer supported by a strong multidisciplinary team and a vibrant research program.

The multidisciplinary team of breast specialists in surgical oncology, radiation oncology and medical oncology manages 1000 new patients annually across the five Peter Mac campuses and outreach clinics coordinated by the Breast Nurse Coordinators in conjunction with specialist breast pathologists, radiologists, molecular imaging specialists, palliative care physicians, geneticists, plastic surgeons and allied health professionals. The team is committed to achieve the best possible patient outcomes through the provision of patient-centred and evidence-based care that is tailored to the needs of individual patients and integrated with an innovative clinical, translational and survivorship research program.

The Breast Service is actively progressing a strategic planning and service development framework to establish national and international leadership in research driven multidisciplinary clinical program for optimal patient outcomes.

Our strong and diverse research program draws on the collective academic strengths of our members in collaboration with other leading Peter Mac researchers and major national and international clinical trials groups.

The service provides multidisciplinary consultation and care for up to 1,000 patients each year. Patients receive care from within the disciplines of surgery, radiation oncology and medical oncology in association with specialist breast nurse coordinators, psychological services, social workers, palliative care services and specialist breast pathologists and radiologists. The Breast Service also has a major commitment to research at all phases of the patient’s journey with breast cancer.
